That God created the universe and from him he gave life to man offers the Christian a juxtaposition of the enormity of creation and the intimacy of creation. Creation is enormous. God made everything. Creation is intimate. God made man.
Creation and Science:
In regards to the various theories of creation the Christian must not accept scientific theory over and above what the Scriptures state. Grudem helpfully asserts, “Scientific theories that do not see God as the Creator fail to give us the dignity that is given by the biblical account.” That dignity also compels us to treat our fellow man with respect. All people are image bearers of God. Because people have not always rightly interpreted the Scriptures we are therefore encouraged to…
“exercise care, then, in speaking to issues that the Bible does not clearly speak to. And when our observations of the natural world seem to conflict with our understanding of Scripture, we should look again at both, seeking to find where our limited understanding and imperfect knowledge of either could be wrong. Ultimately, a proper understanding of science and a proper understanding of Scripture will not be in conflict.”
Creation and Worship:
If you pause to reflect on the enormity of creation and the wisdom and power required to accomplish creation you will respond with adoration and worship of the Creator. If you were to create, where would you begin? All of our creative expressions take shape by using what God has already created. Order and beauty reflect the order and beauty of God. They are not abstract ideas with no origination. God is The Creator.
Because God is The Creator all that he has created is unworthy to be worshiped. Creation should lead us to worship The Creator. Sadly creatures exchange truth for a lie and worship the creature instead of the Creator (Romans 1:25).
Creation is Good:
I found Grudem’s statement that, “[e]ven though the creation doesn’t always function as it is supposed to because of sin, we should also consider the material creation good.” He quotes 1 Timothy 4:4 for support: “For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,” Christians are therefore encouraged to enjoy the good of God’s creative work all to God’s glory and to his praise. Will you?
